Research
I am co-PI on the RAAB7 project - the latest iteration of the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness survey methodology.
Throughout 2020, I contributed to the Lancet Global Health Commission on Global Eye Health as a Commissioner engaged in research projects related to eye health indicators. This work is linked to the RAAB7 goals of improving eye health data collection and use for planning and monitoring eye care services. With ICEH colleagues, I have published a definition of effective refractive error coverage and a baseline analysis of effective cataract surgical coverage, two key global eye health indicators with World Health Assembly endorsed global targets for 2030.
My focus is on developing the RAAB survey protocol to integrate additional, optional data collection modules on e.g., health systems and health economics, and improve the collection and analysis of eye health data by key equity dimensions.
Since 2021, I have worked on the rebuild of the RAAB data repository, available at . The project aims to improve the availability of open access survey data to benefit the global eye health community’s research and advocacy agendas.
I have also worked on non-RAAB survey projects including the 2019 Gambia National Eye Health Survey.
